Film Notes:
Born in Saint Petersburg, Russia, Anton Ginzburg, is a New York-based artist and filmmaker who received a classical arts education in the USSR before emigrating to the U.S. in 1990, where he studied at both The New School for Social Research and Bard College. Dizzyingly varied both in form and subject matter, his work is nevertheless unified by a preoccupation with the spaces of architecture and landscape, and a determination to animate these spaces by revealing the layers of historical, mythic, and literary narratives that reside beneath their surface. This approach is brought to particularly elaborate and ambitious heights in the newly completed trilogy that’s comprised of the films HYPERBOREA, WALKING THE SEA, and TURO, which anchor the two programs Ginzburg will be presenting here.
