Installation at Elysium Space: Two green lasers, hazer, wood, metal chains, stones

Counter Geometries was presented by KK Projects as a satelite project in New Orleans in conjunction with Prospect.1 in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, The installation grew from the context of natural disaster. Debris found around the city was used to construct an installation resembling a still frame of a film of the hurricane, overlaid with crisscrossed static lasers. While most of the objects hanging in the debris were recognizable as tree branches or architectural fragments, they were painted black to resemble shadows of themselves. The lasers inspired by the tagging system used by rescue workers after the hurricane had a green glow suggestive of a glimpse into an alternate static dimension. Their beams delineated dynamic planes that cut across the warehouse, evoking a collision between real and imagined space amid the chaos of a real natural disaster.
