Artist talk moderated by Matvei Yankelevich

On Saturday, November 16, at 5pm, Fridman Gallery (169 Bowery) will host an artist talk with Anton Ginzburg and Dasha Shishkin, who will speak about their current exhibition, "Partial Eclipse." The talk will be moderated by Matvei Yankelevich

Matvei Yankelevich is an author, cofounder and co-executive director of Ugly Duckling Presse, where he edits books, curates the Eastern European Poets Series, and edits the press’s magazine 6x6. He has taught courses in translation, publishing, and Russian literature at Columbia University, Colorado College, Hunter College, Wesleyan University, and Naropa’s Summer Writing Program. He is a member of the writing faculty at the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College. Yankelevich lives in Brooklyn.  

Following the talk will be an improvised performance with saxophonist Tamio Shiraishi and vocalist Nina Rosalind Dante, starting at 6pm.

Saxophonist Tamio Shiraishi began performing music in Tokyo's vibrant avant-garde community in the late 1970s. In the 1980s Shiraishi participated the theatrical companies, performance artists, butoh dancers, and various musicians in Japan. Shiraishi spent the 1990s living and performing in both Tokyo and New York City, where he performed in public. Since then, he has continued performing with numerous collaborators and maintains an ongoing series of performances in NYC subway stations.


Soprano/vocalist Nina Dante is a soloist, chamber musician, improviser and composer based in New York City. Musical experimentation and the continual discovery of the voice’s emotive power and technical ability are the inspiring forces behind her work.
